Tremendous Alpine Skiing World Champs
Monday, March 9th, 2009 at 2:55 pmThe 2009 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships in Korea are now over, and what an impressive event with outstanding athletes!
I was actually not present in Gangwon-Do, but I have recently been in contact IPC Governing Board member Patrick Jarvis who was indeed at the Championships.
He said that from the start, enthusiasm and tremendous anticipation filled the ballroom of the High 1 Resort Hotel as the national teams from all around the world assembled for the Opening Ceremony. The days that followed he said, saw the World Championships off to a running start with the Slalom race as first in the schedule of events. The next day saw incredible weather conditions, with the Giant Slalom competition showing stellar performances on the ski hill.
Mr. Jarvis said that in watching the ski racers carve through the gates from various vantage points along the course, he marvelled at the calibre of competition. He finished by saying it was a privilege to witness Alpine Skiing and its high level of performance first hand. In fact, he said it was difficult to depart from the Championships before they were officially over!
Pat’s experience now provides its own elements of anticipation for the future Paralympic Winter Sport competitions!
In addition to the Alpine Skiing World Championships, test events are taking place in Vancouver, including for the sport of Ice Sledge Hockey. The 2009 Hockey Canada Cup which finished last weekend gave athletes and spectators a taste of what the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Winter Games will be like!

This one of my favorite tv sports to watch, there is just something about winter sports, but I think that it is more seeing the white snow, something that we don’t get in some parts of South Africa
